Dubbed ‘Back to Ramland’ the club is encouraging everyone who has been involved with the Rams to join in the weekend festivities.
Rams president Ashley Hall said the reunion will be a great opportunity for all former players and supporters to check out the recent improvements to the Hardinge St Oval facilities.
“The club has undergone a variety of upgrades in the last few years and we wanted to open the place up to everyone who has been involved in the history of the Rams,” he said.
“The new lights and fencing will be completed by then, and along with the upgrades to the clubrooms more than two million dollars has been spent on the facilities.
“Our last reunion weekend was ruined by COVID so a lot of former players and members are yet to see the changes.’’
Hall said the date of the reunion was specifically chosen to follow on from the Anzac Day public holiday.
“We chose the 26th and 27th of April to encourage people who have left Deniliquin to make a weekend of it.
“The Anzac Day races will be on the Thursday so there will be plenty going on.
“We want to see the whole town buzzing over the weekend.’’
Mr Hall was quick to point out the reunion was not just for past footballers.
“We’ve held premiership reunions and past players’ days in recent years, but we want this to be much bigger than that.
“Footballers, netballers, sponsors, committee members, parents and supporters - we want everyone who has been through the gates at the Hardinge St Oval to come along.’’
‘Back to Ramland’ will kick off on Friday, April 26 with a welcome evening and tour of the facilities.
Hosted by club legend Greg Danckert, the night will kick off at 6pm with the club opening the bar and providing free food for all attendees.
Mr Danckert said the night will be a casual affair.
“We want to keep the Friday night as relaxed as possible,’’ he said.
“Just a chance for everyone to catch up over a drink and reminisce about old times.
“We might give some club characters a chance to tell some stories but it will be a very relaxed atmosphere.’’
The Rams will play reigning premier Mulwala the following day, so the football and netball action will be sure to keep everyone entertained.
With former star and ex-Richmond and Bulldogs player Sam Lloyd back in the blue and gold, the Rams will be looking to return to finals action.
Mr Danckert said the football will be just part of Saturday’s activities.
“We’re encouraging everyone to get down to the Hardinge St Oval as early as possible to catch the junior football and netball but the official part of the day will kick off at 1pm.’
“We will have some guest speakers throughout the day, but it will remain very casual.’’
Mr Danckert added the reunion weekend will be free of charge and he is hoping to see as many former players and supporters as possible.
“We will try our best to keep everyone informed of the weekend through the Pastoral Times and social media, but we want locals to do their bit and spread the word.
“If you have family and friends who were involved with the club reach out to them and encourage them to attend. The bigger the better.”
