This truck is the first in the Mid-Murray Zone to have the new RFS branding, and certainly stands out compared to the old truck.
This new truck represents a $350,000 investment in the local RFS brigade at Pine Lea and comes with plenty of additional features to both help our volunteers get the fires out more efficiently, but most importantly more safely.
With heat curtains in the cab, a ‘halo’ spray to keep the cab cool and additional rollover protection, the enhanced features are designed specifically to keep the firefighters as safe as possible while they are working in and around the truck.
This new truck also comes with a state of the art ‘monitor’ added to the front bull bar, which means the volunteers in the truck can fire water at the fire from inside the cab using a remote control.
This will make firefighting on the kind of running grass fires so prevalent in the Mid-Murray much quicker, easier, and safer for the volunteers.
The new truck is fully equipped and ready to go now, with the old Pine Lea truck being decommissioned after well over 25 years of sterling service.
Pine Lea Captain Kev Sexton, while sorry to see the dependable, old truck leave the shed, was pleased to accept the keys to the new version with its great new features.
“For a small rural brigade like ours, the additional features will make a really positive benefit for our volunteers,” Captain Sexton said.
The new tanker truck will give the Pine Lea brigade the best chances of responding and supporting those in an emergency, as well as other brigades or bodies when called upon.
