Edward River Council Mayor Peta Betts said the project should be complete before the spring influx of visitors.
“This location serves as the perfect welcome to Deniliquin, being so close to local shops and eateries,” she said.
“I hope visitors take the time to explore our vibrant towns.”
The project is racing to the finish line thanks to a $300,000 grant from round three of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund.
Cr Betts and other Edward River Councillors took the opportunity to show the progress to NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole when he was in Deniliquin on Tuesday.
Mr Toole was suitably impressed with the project, which has transformed the space where under-utilised clay tennis courts and a clubhouse once stood.
“Visitors to Deniliquin will soon have access to walking paths to stretch their legs, a playground for kids to run around and seating to have a bite to eat, enticing travellers to stay longer and explore the wider community,” he said.
“The New South Wales Government is investing record amounts to deliver the infrastructure needed to stimulate regional economies but we’re also backing grassroots projects that make a positive difference to everyday life.”
