The PT was recognised in three categories, which included the winner’s plaque for the ‘Best New Advertising Product’ for 2023-24.
This award was presented for the 12-month ‘Think B4 U Click’ campaign.
The PT received the runner-up award in Best Sports Story, for Zoe McMaugh’s feature article on Brenda Norman’s abandoned marathon swim, and was also runner-up in ‘Best Special Publication’ for our Southern Riverina What’s On magazine.
In announcing the Best New Advertising Product winner, judges described the Think B4 U Click campaign as “bright, innovative, eye-catching and most importantly, successful”, encouraging people to shop local rather than online.
It was described as a “clear winner” in the category.
The PT’s quarterly What’s On magazine was introduced more than a decade ago to fill a need in the market for a current and informative tourist publication.
It was runner-up in the Special Publication category and described by judges as “a vibrant and highly informative guide that serves both locals and tourists alike. Its colorful and eye-catching design immediately draws readers in, ensuring the wealth of information it contains is accessible and engaging.”
In the Best Sports Story category, judges complemented Ms McMaugh’s story on Brenda Norman’s abandoned swim across the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland in September 2023.
They said the story had “all the elements of a hero’s journey” and made special mention that it was “not all about winning, but spoke to the challenges of sporting life and how sport is always as much about community as it is the individual pursuit”.
Pastoral Times general manager Leesa Muir said the PT team was delighted with the recognition in three categories at such a prestigious awards event.
“The importance of a local newspaper was highlighted at the conference,” she said.
“It was fitting that in our 165th year of continuous publication, and being one of the oldest newspapers in our state, that the Pastoral Times was put to the forefront.”
The conference was attended on behalf of the Pastoral Times by director Garry Baker, a CP NSW life member who, following the annual meeting on Friday, continues in his role as the association’s immediate past president.
