It will be transporting large power transformers from the Port of Melbourne to the Goorambat East Solar Farm, on Goorambat-Chesney Rd.
The transformers will leave from the Appleton Dock in Port Melbourne and are expected to arrive on Goorambat-Chesney Rd, Goorambat, between 10am and noon.
The transformers will be transported on an oversize vehicle, about 53m long and 4.5m wide.
An oversized vehicle can travel upwards of an average speed of 45km/h where safe to do so.
However, there will be times when the vehicle will be travelling at 5km/h or under to cross bridges or turn corners safely.
Slower speeds can be expected along:
- Goorambat-Chesney Rd
- Goorambat-Thoona Rd
- Benalla-Tocumwal Rd
AusNet general manager infrastructure operations and delivery Keiran Connell said the delivery of the transformers was a critical step in connecting the Goorambat East Solar Farm to Victoria’s transmission grid.
“The transformers, to be located in a new terminal station within the solar farm, will ‘step-up’ the energy generated by the Goorambat East Solar Farm from 33kV to 220kV to connect it into the existing transmission network for distribution to homes and businesses,” Mr Connell said.
During the deliveries, there will be minor traffic delays in the area.
There will be a large contingent of escort vehicles travelling in front of and at the rear of the oversized vehicle to guide the deliveries safely on regional roads.
As the oversized vehicle travels on regional roads, the public may experience an increase in noise while it travels at slower speeds.
