The Deniliquin Aero Club played host to an open day at the Deniliquin Airport on Sunday from 9am until noon.

Numbers reportedly started off fairly slowly due to the cold and foggy morning, which made it difficult for the aero enthusiasts to shake off the cold and get out of bed.
However, the crowd started to build as the weather cleared, and presented a beautiful Sunday.
The day involved static displays as well as some aerial displays, with several local pilots and planes also on display to celebrate the opening of a new runway at Deniliquin Airport.
The Deni Aero Club sold bacon and egg rolls for breakfast with tea and coffee available on site for purchase.
The event was supported by Edward River Council, Wettenhall Air Services, Field Air, The Border Flying Club Tocumwal, the Deniliquin Vintage Car Club and Deniliquin Model Aircraft Club, Fly Riverina Flight Training School offering trial introductory flights and our local emergency services who were on site displaying their equipment and greeting spectators.
Wayne Bradley was out and about with his camera taking a number of amazing pictures, which he kindly sent in to be used.
A highlight for many was seeing members of the community together as the spectacular planes flew overhead.
Council members birthdays raised
On the opening of the runway, the official opening was held at the airport on Friday.
But it was not the only thing being celebrated.
Mayor Peta Betts took a moment during her introductory speech to single out two council employees.
She wished happy birthday to Justin Learmonth and Belinda Perrett in front of the crowd of about 30 people.
The acknowledgement was a nice touch for two important members of the Deniliquin community.
Big day for Rams Sponsors Day
The Deni Rams Football Netball Club held its Sponsors Day on Saturday at the Hardinge St Oval.
The weather, performances and atmosphere all led to a great day and a strong crowd, with more than 250 sponsors attending.
Some of the day’s appetising highlights included Brian’s famous paella and Frank n Beans’ finger food.
In their on-the-field day out against Tongala, the Rams achieved wins across the board in the football and strong wins in the netball for the under-17s and a two-point triumph against the reigning premiers in A-grade.

Rally reaches the end of the road
The gigantic 2024 Winter Sh*tbox Rally effort reached the finish line of Alice Springs on Saturday.
Deniliquin teams The Deni Girls and On Angels Wings both appear to have completed the journey without too much trouble, and were in full spirits as part of the charity event raising funds for Cancer treatment and research through the Cancer Council.
The teams travelled up to 400km each day of the rally after leaving Melbourne a week earlier - and coming through Deni on day one.
We intend to catch up with the local teams on their return home, and provide a full wrap in Friday’s edition.
