A more than $20,000 project to promote a healthier lifestyle in young people and the entire community is now open.

The newly installed fitness obstacle course at Deniliquin South School was opened on June 10, with Edward River Council Mayor Peta Betts asked to cut the ribbon.
The fitness equipment was partly funded using a combined $8,000 in grants from Edward River Council and the Deniliquin Community Group.
The remainder of the funds were raised by family and friends of students, who donated more than $15,000 to support the project.
Deniliquin South School principal Liz Dudley said the obstacle course does not just belong to the school community.
“The installation of this equipment will not only be a source of enjoyment for our students, but as our school is a shared space during holiday breaks, our local community now has a play-based park at the south end of town for all to enjoy,” she said.
After the official cutting of the ribbon, special guests, students and families were invited to stay for a picnic lunch on the oval and try out the new equipment.
South School extended a special thank you to Kate Smith, Lisa Pyle and Heidi Plant for their work obtaining the grants, the P&C and the school community for their continuous support.
