A group of Deni North students, staff and families travelled to Mayborough, Victoria last week to participate.
Each day was an early start as the pushcarts were the first to compete.
The Deni Diamonds and Northern Stars had to present, build and race the obstacle course to complete the pushcart challenge.
The final day saw the teams compete in the endurance and sprint races, finish their events and attend presentation.
The teams’ performances exceeded all expectations.
The Northern Stars came third overall, scoring well in all events.
The Deni Diamonds won the track events title, scoring the most points for all track races and placing fifth overall.
Northern Stars participant Isla Andrew said the students all celebrated a great result.
“We started the journey way back in April; it wasn’t just a race on the track,” she said.
“We all tried our hardest. Even when another team cut us off in the sprints, we did not stop.
“We came third overall for everything.
“That’s pretty amazing and shows just how amazing we really are.”
The Human Powered Vehicles were up next in competition.
Participants had to complete a 14 hour trial on a street circuit.
The Deni Blue Crew placed 61st out of 63 for their starting position on the grid after completing their presentation, scrutineering and time trial.
The race started at noon on Friday and finished on Saturday, when heavy rain started to fall.
The students changed drivers every few laps and competed extremely well for their maiden race.
Teacher Christie Gavel said based on the success of this year’s event, it won’t be long before students and teachers are back in the saddle preparing for next year.
“As a school we would like to thank everyone for the amazing opportunity that has been presented to each and everyone of us - families and staff included,” she said.
“We especially thank the local businesses and organisations who donated goods and money to help make our dream a reality.”
