A number of local schools held their own Anzac Day services in the first week of Term 3, with Deniliquin North School joined by some special guests for their April 28 ceremony.
School education support officer Stacey Clancy said students, many of whom marched as part of the commemorative service on Anzac Day in Deniliquin, led the school ceremony.
“The event was chaired by captains Amy Doherty and Xander Strong. A number of our Year 6 students were also involved in the ceremony, and all should be proud of their commitment and effort in contributing to a wonderful service,” she said.
“We were very grateful to have special guests, with Don Ward and Alan Edwards from the Deniliquin RSL Sub-branch and Richard Davies and Noel Porter from the Deniliquin branch of Legacy attending.
“Special thanks to Claire Wing for her playing of The Last Post and Reveille. We are so fortunate to have our very own in-house trumpet player.
“The morning concluded with a special morning tea for our distinguished guests and official party.”
Other events held as part of the Anzac Day program this year included the Sub-branch’s Anzac Eve dinner on April 23 and the inaugural Diggers Charity Golf Club on April 24.
There was also the dedication of a memorial to Royal Australian Air Force members who died while serving with the No. 7 Service Flying Training School in Deniliquin.
All this was held in addition to services hosted in Deniliquin and Wanganella.
