Mathoura’s Catholic community has welcomed a new Parish Priest for St Brigid’s.
He is Fr Richard Green, who comes to us from Mona Vale.
Fr Richard has settled into the presbytery in Moama, and is looking forward to being a part of our community.
A keen motorcyclist, he probably wouldn’t say ‘no’ to having a like-minded soul show him around his new surroundings which, with the world’s largest red gum forest and one of its longest rivers, really is God’s own country.
Welcome Fr Richard. We hope your time with us will be a happy and rewarding one.

The district has been saddened to learn of the loss of former local personality, Elsie Stratton, who passed away last week.
Elsie was a popular educator, working locally with youngsters at Mathoura Preschool and Mathoura Public School for many years.
Her bubbly personality also made her a hit with aged care residents in Moama where she would dress up and entertain them.
Elsie was the loved wife of Robert (dec), and devoted mother of Paul, Geoff (dec), Helen and Anne and loving partner to Hans. Sympathy is extended to her family.

There will be plenty of action at the recreation reserve over the next two weeks with the Mathoura Football Netball Club at home for consecutive weeks.
However, the resultant crowds of locals and visitors may mean the club could be short-handed.
Consequently it has put a call out for volunteers to assist in a range of areas.
Even if people can spare an hour or two, it would be helpful.
Assistance is required in the canteen, on the gate from noon, the bar (NSW RSA), scoring and timekeeping.
Parents of junior players are particularly encouraged to stay on after their games to help where they can, maybe checking to see if your coach needs help with scoring or timekeeping.
Many hands make light work so just make yourself available where you can.

Did you get to catch the PJ parade yesterday?
Pyjamas of all colours and designs were the order of the day as Mathoura Public School students enjoyed a special treat to mark the imminent arrival of the end to the current term.
They will now take a break for a couple of weeks R & R before bouncing back into another term of learning at this great school.
Happy holidays everyone.

Have you noticed that Murray River Council has been talking a lot of rubbish lately?
Well, actually, it’s been good rubbish as they plan to introduce new ways for us to deal with our waste.
A $321,914 grant will allow the introduction of a Food Organics Garden Organics waste collection service.
Known as FOGO, it will expand our current garden organics to also include food organics.
We will be provided with a 240L green-lidded FOGO bin, kitchen caddy (small benchtop scraps bin) and compostable liners to fit the caddy.
The new system, to be rolled out in mid-2022, will involve a weekly FOGO organics collection, as well as fortnightly 240L yellow lid recycling and fortnightly 140L red lid general waste collections.
But don’t start worrying now about which goes out when, there will be a comprehensive education program conducted before the launch.

He will be supported by Tracey Cavanagh as secretary, Sue Higgs as treasurer and Pam Fitzpatrick as public officer.

The new chairman paid tribute to the previous committee, thanking its members for their dedication and hard work in providing fun and entertainment for the families of Mathoura and surrounds as well as the many visitors to our area.
The group is looking forward to its first event, to be held in collaboration with the Mathoura Speed Shear Committee, on October 30.
