He retained the seat for the Nationals with 68.7 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.
All booths, bar two, in the district voted in Mr McCurdy’s favour on a two-party-preferred basis.
Locally Cobram (1120 to 420 votes), Invergordon (173 to 49), Katamatite (262 to 69) and Yarroweyah (633 to 146) all went in Mr Mcurdy’s favour.
In Wandiligong it was a tie with Labor candidate Zuvele Leschen and Mr McCurdy gaining 140 votes a piece.
The Mt Beauty booth was won by Ms Leschen (420 to 401 votes).
Mr McCurdy was ‘’humbled’’ by the result and said he hoped it reflected the work he had put into the community.
“I am honoured that the people of Ovens Valley have overwhelmingly given me their vote of confidence to continue being their local voice in parliament,” Mr McCurdy said.
“All politics is local, if you want the people to understand you have to walk with the community and understand all the issues. The electorate is over 10,000 square kilometres and I go far and wide to make sure everyone in the electorate is heard.’’
Mr McCurdy pointed out that the Nationals’ strong showing in last weekend’s Victorian election was an indication of who regional Victorians put their trust in.
“We (the Nationals) as a team can get things done. I welcome and congratulate my colleagues across the state on their success.”
Mr McCurdy has promised to immediately fight for the regional community and ensure that every resident in the Oven Valley is heard.
“I can assure you I will continue to work hard for the Ovens Valley over the next four years, to continue to fight for regional and rural communities, and ensure we get our fair share.”
Some of the issues Mr McCurdy will be fighting for include upgrades to the Cobram hospital and community sporting facilities.
Regional roads within Oven Valley is also a top issue for Mr McCurdy who has described them as abysmal.
Mr McCurdy also thanked his volunteers and described their hard work as invaluable to ensuring victory.
He has dampened any speculation of a split between his party and the Liberals following the poor showing the Nationals’ Coalition partner had last Saturday.
“The partnership is a worthy partnership,” Mr McCurdy said.
