The session will focus on the experience of a councillor and will feature insights from current councillors.
Council’s CEO Terry Dodds said the aim of the briefing is to give people a better understanding of the role and responsibilities of an elected member before the local government elections this September.
"Councillors play a crucial role in the decision-making process at council and it is essential anyone considering nominating to run in the upcoming election understands what is involved," he said.
"As a council body, we do all we can to support our elected members, and we hope the candidate briefing will provide a good overview of what is involved in the role and answer all the questions prospective candidates may have.
“If you’re considering running for council, I encourage you to join this session and hear directly from councillors about what it is really like.”
The in-person workshop will be facilitated by Local Government NSW on Tuesday, June 4, from 5pm to 8.30pm at the Moama Murray River Council office - 52 Perricoota Rd, Moama.
Mr Dodds said council will also facilitate other candidate information sessions as required.
“Whilst the initial workshop run by Local Government New South Wales is slated for Moama, we want to make sure all prospective candidates have the opportunity to ask questions and get the information they require.
“We are asking anyone who can’t attend the Moama workshop to please register with us and we will arrange a session with you accordingly.”
Prospective candidates, including those unable to attend the workshop, should register by visiting www.murrayriver.nsw.gov.au.
The 2024 Council elections will take place on September 14.
Nine community members will be elected to the role of councillor for a period of four years.
Council has engaged the NSW Electoral Commission (NSWEC) to administer the election.
