Art and history have combined with Mathoura’s latest attraction.

It is a mural of the Mathoura Railway Station in 1876 which has been erected generally on the site of the original building.
It operated in the era of the historic private Deniliquin Moama Railway and was the half-way point between the two centres.
As well as carrying passengers and freight, the Mathoura stop enabled the train to take on red gum blocks to fuel its engine.
The painting is based on a photograph taken by historian, the late Jim Crump. It just goes to show that you don’t have to still be here to have an influence on the town’s appearance.
The mural is the ‘baby’ of the Mathoura Art Group which secured funding for it some years ago.
It is the work of local award winning artist/signwriter, Greg Chalmers, who was commissioned by the group to carry out the work.
Congratulations to all involved in providing the town with yet another great attraction.

Perfect sunny weather greeted teams from near and far on Saturday when they turned up for Mathoura Bowling Club’s latest tournament, the Mathoura Millewa 2 Bowl Triples.
Twenty-five teams turned out to play on Saturday, with five teams ending the day as three-game winners.
Sunday started out looking more like Melbourne than Mathoura — cold, wet and windy.
Play-offs were needed after three teams finished as five-game winners.
Eventual winners were a Tongala outfit — skip S Usher, P Copper and K Walsh — ahead of a Mathoura’s contingent of M Quor (skip), C Hillier and G Hulm.
Third place went to a combined side comprising skip B Campbell, A Vesty and P Campbell.
Highest winning margin prizes on the last two games went to R Holmfield +16 and K Plattfuss + 21.
Organisers were delighted with the support from players, local bowlers and staff for helping to make the event a great success.

Mathoura Public School’s most unusual ‘student’, Winnie the Moo, is about to receive a make-over, with Ryder selected as the design winner for her new outfit.
Winnie, who is assisting the youngsters with their studies on the dairy industry and the importance of healthy food generally, is a Picasso Cow.
You may have seen many of her relatives in Shepparton over the years. We look forward to seeing her new ‘outfit’ in coming weeks.
