The Western Murray Land Improvement Group facilitated more crayfish releases yesterday, with the support of OzFish Unlimited, Edward-Wakool Angling Association, JIG, and NSW DPI Fisheries.
Releases were held at the Nyah Reserve Boat Ramp and Tooleybuc Bridge, with members of the community invited to assist.
Last month, Dr John Conallin from EWAA and Joint Indigenous Group member Anthony Jones returned 265 crayfish back into the Murray River at Swan Hill (100 crayfish), Barham (150) and Moulamein (15).
Art opening tonight
The community is warmly invited to the free opening of a new art exhibition at Riverbend Gallery from 5pm today.
The ‘Art in Focus’ exhibition showcases the connections between various visual artists to highlight the talent within the arts community.
ERAS’ In Focus photography group has carefully selected photographs which inspired fellow ERAS artists to create original artworks, drawings and paintings.
The artworks and photographs will be displayed together.
All photographs and artworks will be available for purchase, offering a wonderful opportunity to support local artists and take home a piece of this special exhibition.
Opening party attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy wine and nibbles while exploring the exhibition and engaging with the visual artists.
Marketta number two
Another exciting event on tonight is the second Sanctuary Lane Twilight Marketta.
Held in the courtyard of Harry Pepper in End St, it gets under way from 5.30pm.
The inaugural market on July 5 featured food stalls, stalls from local makers and producers and live music.
You can expect more of the same when it returns tonight.
It is hoped the market continues to grow and gain support to run in the laneway behind End St, which inspired the name of the vent.
If you wish to be involved in the Sanctuary Lane Twilight Marketta, contact Adam Connolly at adam@harrypepper.com.
Ley sings to raise Hope
Federal Member for Farrer Sussan Ley has launched a fundraising campaign to support Country Hope.
It is an organisation that provides vital support to families facing the challenges of having a child with cancer or other life-threatening illnesses.
Ms Ley has signed up to the On Key 4 Kids charity event, as a singing fundraiser.
It will see her perform, alongside 11 others, at Albury’s SS&A Club on October 12.
This highly anticipated third edition promises to reach new heights, building upon the extraordinary success of last year, which saw the remarkable achievement of raising over $130,000 for Country Hope.
Ms Ley has shown in the past she has a love of Tina Turner, even dressing as the megastar in Parliament. Which singer will she emulate this time?
Business conditions survey
Business NSW is inviting businesses to help them build a picture of business to influence decision making.
Its August 2024 business conditions survey is geared at understanding the impacts of the economy slowdown.
“This has implications for business in many ways, including customer demand, access to finance and opportunities for expansion. It is time to reflect on the challenges and opportunities for your business,” Business NSW says.
Survey responses give Business NSW’s policy and advocacy team direct knowledge of emerging challenges faced by the business community in NSW.
This information is then provided to key decision makers with evidence-based insight needed to affect change.
Those on the Business NSW mailing list will have received the link to the survey in their emails, or you can access it via the Business NSW Facebook page or going to https://nam.dcv.ms/3YlpPBAWQ0.
Flood study input needed
While on the subject of surveys, impacted community members are reminded to provide input for Murray River Council’s new Moulamein Flood Study.
Last updated in 2019, information from the 2022 floods will be used to revise mapping and plans to support flood preparedness and response activities in the future.
A community meeting to start gathering data was held in Moulamein on Wednesday.
Information can also be provided by filling in a questionnaire about your experience(s) of flooding and drainage issues for the region.
It can be accessed via the public notice section on council’s website. Hard copies are also available at the Moulamein Library and Business Centre during business hours.
