Edward River Council adopted plans at its June meeting which include two mooring poles adjacent the oval.
A new boat ramp and an off-leash dog park with a ‘‘wash off’’ station are the other key features of the project, which does not yet have a construction start date.
Funding for the redevelopment is yet to be allocated, therefore it is likely to be completed in small stages as funding does become available.
‘‘The masterplan is something council can progress over time and has a lot of elements to it,’’ interim general manager John Rayner said.
‘‘It will also respect the indigenous heritage of the site, which is really important.
‘‘There was strong feedback on the need for a dog park and comment on the indigenous site, among a couple of other comments when the plans went on public exhibition.
‘‘There was, however, nothing negative about the proposals.’’
The dog park will be surrounded by a two metre tall chain link fence with agility and exercise equipment, designated small and large dog areas, dog drinking dispensers and seating within the park.
Existing trees will be retained to provide shade for the dog park, with new native trees to be planted on the other sides to surround the whole area.
Other parts of the design includes a fish cleaning station with shelter, a kayak launching point, new pathways and seating, parking and the removal of the cricket pitch.
‘‘It is a flood prone area, so once water gets up about seven or eight metres it conveys onto the oval. We were very conscious about that when putting concepts together,’’ Mayor Norm Brennan said.
‘‘It is something that needs to happen. It is a lovely area and I am looking forward to seeing these designs become a reality.’’
