A small mob of rouge sheep - or perhaps two separate groups - had the entire community talking at the weekend.

One small flock was reported in the west end of Deniliquin on Thursday evening, particularly at the entrance to McLean Beach.
On Friday night, social media lit up again when a small flock was seen taking a walk through the Deni CBD on Friday evening.
One witness snapped a pic of the sheep in Napier St outside a local hairdressing salon, which when shared on social media prompted a flurry of messages suggesting the touring mob were simply looking for a ‘baa-ber’, or just doing a bit of window shopping like any other tourist.
A few keen eye locals even pointed out that CBD butcher Mokanger’s had a special on lamb loin chops earlier in the day, and the mob had better be careful.
It’s not yet clear where the sheep had come from.
Triple treat
When you and two mates all share a birthday, it makes sense to celebrate together.
And that’s precisely what Jonathan Cox, Sandra Whyborn and Roger Hall did on Friday.
It’s part of their annual tradition to get together and share a birthday cake on their actual birthday - January 3.
Making it easier for the trio is the fact they are all volunteers at the Deniliquin Salvation Army together.
They met at Frank And Beans for lunch this year and were joined by a small group of family and other friends.
Careful, reptiles about
The warmer and more humid conditions of late appear to be ideal for the scaled members of our local ecosystem.
There have been a number of backyard snake sightings reported via social media in the past week.
And one community member also posted about a large goanna which was going to a stroll near Sanctuary Lane, which runs behind End St, Deniliquin.
While some of the sightings are a little riskier than others, it’s important to know that reptiles may be more visible in the conditions we’ve been experiencing.
Anyone who does find a snake - or any other unusual creature - in their yard has been instructed to contact WIRES via www.wires.org.au or 1300 094 737 for advice.
They may be able to put you in touch with a volunteer who could help.
Holiday fun begins
With Christmas and New Year’s now both out of the way, most local businesses and organisations will return to normal operating hours from this week.
And that means all the school holiday programs for our community will get under way.
And there’s quite a few to choose from.
As well as the long-running Intereach OOSH holiday program, fun activities are being hosted by the Deniliquin Sports & Entertainment Stadium, Edward River Library in Deniliquin, South West Music and event the Deniliquin Baptist Church.
Check out their individual Facebook pages for more information.
