Main Street works by mid 2025

That’s the latest advice, conveyed to The Free Press last Friday, by State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes.

Planning for the Murray Valley Highway (Main Street) safety improvements is already underway, with design and construction updates to be communicated with the community as the project progresses.

Once plans are finalised, major works will be carried out by the Department of Transport and Planning in the first half of 2025.

The Victorian Government is investing $1.3 million in infrastructure improvements on Main Street to improve visibility for pedestrians and drivers, provide safe crossing options and manage traffic flow in the area.

Several new pedestrian priority crossing points will be implemented on Main Street, including one pedestrian-operated signalised crossing, as part of the Rutherglen Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project.

To complete the Rutherglen Pedestrian Safety Improvements Project, the state government has refocused funding initially pledged to the Rutherglen Heavy Vehicle Alternative Route following the withdrawal of Federal Government funding in 2023.
