The combined total of donations provided to the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal from the Deniliquin area is listed at $16,952 on the appeal’s virtual tally room.
This is the first year all donations from Deniliquin have been combined to form a total.
Local fundraisers included the annual Good Friday Appeal raffle hosted at the Deniliquin RSL Club, coordinated by Fay Mills and her team of volunteers.
Mrs Mills also coordinated tin rattlers, which included members of Deniliquin Fire + Rescue NSW.
Captain Marty Smith and firefighters Ben Purtill, Bec Biggs, Mick Maher and Clint Free attended the local caravan parks, with help from Tanya Smith, Kacey Dighton and Mollie and Brydey Maher.
They contributed more than $2500 to the tin rattlers’ total.
Local fundraising also included the sale of heart earrings in the RCH colours by young entrepreneurs Isabella and Grace Sommerfeld at Wildheart Accessories.
The primary school aged jewellery designers were even invited to Melbourne to appear on the live Channel 7 coverage of the count.
Funds were also raised at the Conargo Easter Campdraft event.
The nation’s total, as announced on Friday evening, was $23,061,320.
Good Friday Appeal executive director Rebecca Cowan said this year’s funds would go to new and ongoing programs including cardiac projects, the Centre for Health Analytics, development of the Melbourne Children’s Campus Mental Health Strategy and vibrant youth program Chronic Illness Peer Support (ChIPS).
Appeal chair Penny Fowler said the appeal continues to “shine a light on the very best in our community”, with this year no exception.
“We are incredibly grateful to communities and all the volunteers for digging deep for The Royal Children’s Hospital.
“Thank you to the federal and state governments for the generous contributions to the appeal, to ensure it (the Royal Children’s Hospital) remains a world-class facility helping sick children and their families.”
