The number of families that have been seen enjoying our recreational spaces in the lead up to Easter has been heart warming.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
With the Victorian school holidays starting more than a week ago, there’s been quite a few unfamiliar faces getting around town and enjoying the facilities.
It was particularly pleasing to see a combination of families using the Werrpanakata Fish Park in Brown Park for its intended purpose.
They had found a place on one of the fishing platforms, and had lines in the water.
We didn’t see if they had any luck though.
The fish park is named for the Wamba Wamba phrase, meaning a good place to fish.
We can only assume the families in town will increase now that NSW schools have also paused for Easter.
Clean-up appreciated
Speaking of our parks - thumbs up to the work the Edward River Council staff have done over the past few weeks to prepare for the holiday season.
Our correspondents have seen them out early most mornings for the past two weeks, cleaning up in our parks and gardens.
They’ve also been doing some landscaping work in the Deniliquin CBD to ensure it’s all presentable.
We’re sure the locals and visitors will join us - and Mayor Ashley Hall (see page 3) - in saying “job well done”.
Deni’s ‘Gather Round’
While it might have been Gather Round in Adelaide for the AFL, Deni had its own version of Gather Round in Deniliquin on Saturday.
The Deni Rams were at home against the Purples of Nathalia while the Deni Rovers played host to the Blighty Redeyes.
Both games attracted decent sized crowds, with supporters and sponsors getting around the teams.
Some might have even been able to take in games from both clubs, with the Rovers and Blighty playing under lights for the Warner Tasker Cup clash.
All other grades also started later in the day.
Marvellous moon
Were you confused by the predictions of a pink moon for Saturday and Sunday night?
While called a ‘pink moon’, unfortunately for star gazers it does not actually mean the moon with take on a pink hue.
According to WeatherZone, the full moon we see in our skies specifically during April is coined as such due to its alignment with the blooming of wildflowers in what is currently the northern hemisphere’s spring.
The full and bright moon added a little extra glow to the twilight Deni Rovers and Blighty match-up on Saturday night.
But taking us more by surprise was the vibrancy of the moon yesterday morning.
Even with the sun peering up over the horizon, a rather bright moon still hung over Deniliquin at 7am yesterday.
Movie magic
It was a busy night on Friday night in the Deni CBD.
The Deniliquin Town Hall came to life with movie magic again, with the Deniliquin Film Society using the amazing space for its return to regular screenings.
And those in attendance had a classic to enjoy - The Princess Bride.
By all accounts, it was well received, as were the chocolates for film goers.
