Through a recent fundraiser, the club managed to collect and donate $501.
The club has 16 members who meet each week at the Deni RSL Club from 12.30pm for bowls and afternoon tea.
The amount donated to Can Assist was the result of a Daffodil Day event, coordinated by Joanne Chick.
While Daffodil Day is traditionally a fundraiser for the Cancer Council of NSW, Thursday Ladies Bowls Club president Marg Chick said members decided to donate to a locally-based charity instead after careful consideration.
Mrs Chick and committee member Gloria Griffiths had the honour of presenting the donation to Deniliquin Can Assist president Kellie Crossley earlier this week.
Mrs Crossley said she was very appreciative of the support.
“Lots of charities all have their role to play, but what is probably unique about Can Assist is that this (donation) will go directly to someone in our community dealing with cancer.”
Buoyed by the success of their fundraiser, the Thursdsay Ladies Bowls Club will consider holding similar events in the future.
Funds raised by and donated to Can Assist helps cancer patients with travel and accommodation expenses, and other associated financial pressures.
