Organised by the Khaki Vehicle Enthusiasts Incorporated, this event is a celebration of military history, restoration passion, and camaraderie among ex-Military Vehicle Collectors, all taking place from Monday, March 11 to Sunday, March 17.
Annually held at the Ball Park Caravan Park the gathering brings together collectors from across Australia and the world. The week-long event promises a display of meticulously restored military vehicles, a vibrant vehicle display, and an engaging swap meet at the Corowa Showgrounds.
KVE secretary Jan Thompson shared insights into the upcoming event. The theme for this year’s gathering is the ‘Year of the Blitz’. Ms Thompson expressed enthusiasm about the diversity of ex-military vehicle owners, encouraging them to attend the event to exchange information and parts. Looking ahead, the themes for 2025 and 2026 are set to showcase the ‘Year of the Mack and Unimog’ and the ‘Year of the 6X6,’ respectively.
The Corowa Swim-In and Military Vehicle Gathering had humble beginnings, initially focused on Amphibious Jeeps, specifically the Ford Model G.P.A. ¼ -Ton 4X4 Amphibian. Over the years, it evolved into a grand scale gathering featuring various historic military vehicles, thanks to the overwhelming interest among enthusiasts.
Corowa was strategically chosen as the venue due to its central location, freshwater access along the Murray River, and historical significance.
Throughout the week, the military vehicles will make appearances at local schools, the Corowa and District SHE Shed, and Club Corowa for a special “Veterans & Vehicles Reunited” event. Friday offers participants a choice between two exciting trips to Glenrowan and the Milawa area or Mulwala, including a visit to the Mulwala RSL and a lunch cruise on the PS Cumberoona.
The highlight on Saturday, March 16, includes a parade down Sanger St to the Corowa Showgrounds, featuring a spectacular military vehicle display and Swap Meet.
The event gathers an impressive array of vehicles, predominantly from World War 2 vintage, ranging from Jeeps, Blitz’s, Dodge Weapons Carriers to Harley Davidson motorcycles, and even Guinness Book of World Records recognized Ford GPA amphibious vehicles.
Military history enthusiasts and families alike are invited to witness the spectacle, celebrating the passion and dedication of those who preserve and showcase these remarkable pieces of history.
