Jerrah, a footy star in the making

 Local coach Peter Wills said the achievement is indicative of the bright future for Jerrah in the game. 

‘‘I have coached Jerrah for the last three years,’’ Wills said. 

‘‘This year, especially the last half of the year, she has been playing amazing football.

‘‘She was named player of the match a few times and has really taken charge on the field, as well as helping off field.’’

And he says it’s all just the beginning for Jarrah.

‘‘It’s all testament to how good she is and how she can hold her own against the boys.

‘‘She’s set to be part of the women’s AFL in the future.’’   Jerrah was part of the inaugural girls Goulburn Murray Academy last year, along with teammates Jamika and Shaleah Cooper.

Her mum Kylee Caruso said she was offered a invitation back again this year, but went with the opportunity to play with the GWS girls development team.

‘‘For the girls development team, she has been travelling to Leeton each Monday for the 18 week program with her teammates.

‘‘Jerrah has played two matches against the other GWS development squad and kicked three goals in each game while also displaying some great ball skills and contested marks.’’ 

And along with the upcoming V-line Cup, Jerrah has another opportunity on the horizon, waiting to see if she has been selected for the girls Southern NSW GWS Academy 12-14 girls team. 

‘‘Jerrah is very excited about being selected for the V-Line Cup squad and waiting for the announcement of the GWS Academy girls team,’’ Kylee said.

‘‘At this stage we really do not know which way to go if Jerrah is selected for both as they are both due to play in September school holidays.

‘‘It might be a case of who can play with the current COVID situation and realistically neither may not go ahead.’’
