As a business owner herself - as principal of Big River Real Estate - Mrs Carmichael said she does not often get the chance to just get out and take a look around in the CBD.
But with some more time on her hands last week to do some Christmas shopping, she finally got her chance to explore.
As a bonus, taking that time out to go shopping has also earned Mrs Carmichael another $1000 to spend locally.
Her name was drawn in the fourth of five ‘Have Yourself A Very Local Christmas’ draws on Friday afternoon.
Her winning ticket came from Intersport Deniliquin, where she stopped for Christmas gifts for her children.
“I finished my Christmas shopping today (Friday), and it was nice to just get into the shops and look around,” Mrs Carmichael said.
“It is important to support local businesses, but what’s better is making time to chat to the business owners and just have a look around.
“Shopping local is rewarding in more ways than one.
“I was so impressed with what we have in town.
“There was not a shop I walked into that I didn’t leave without exactly what I wanted, or a few extra things.”
This Christmas marks six months since Benji and Stacy Hardman took over at Intersport Deniliquin.
Mr Hardman said it has been a busy Christmas period and they are “happy with the support from locals”.
There is one more $1000 Why Leave Town gift card to be won before the ‘Have Yourself A Very Local Christmas’ wraps up.
The final draw will be this Friday at 3pm.
Local shoppers are rewarded for every $20 spent at a ‘Have Yourself A Very Local Christmas’ participating business in the lead-up to Christmas, up to a maximum of 10 tickets per transaction.
So get spending, fill out those tickets and return them to entry boxes at the participating businesses before noon on Friday.
‘Have Yourself A Very Local Christmas’ is a Deniliquin Pastoral Times promotion, proudly delivered in partnership with the Deniliquin Business Chamber and participating businesses.
