Mid Murray Rural Fire Service district officer John Temlett predicted high winds and temperatures of 40 degrees or more.
“Everyone should be alert and aware of what’s happening around them and report any fire or smoke as soon as possible,” Mr Temlett said.
"Landholders should also watch for any announcements regarding permits, and we will ring those with permits as required.
“While we cannot put a stop to all hot works across the district like welding, we urge caution for people in industries that use such equipment.
If you see a fire or smoke, call 000 immediately.
Mathoura double
Mathoura’s Rural Fire Service brigade was busy Sunday with two separate call-outs.
About 2pm, firefighters were called to a Tasman St home which had filled with smoke.
On investigation, they discovered fabric had been left close to the stove.
The incident did not result in a fire, and the home was not damaged.
The brigade was called out again about 9pm when a grassfire started on Bunnaloo Rd, just outside the town.
It is believed to have been caused by arcing powerlines.
After the small grassfire was controlled, Essential Energy tended to the power pole.
