Mayor Bernie Hearn said the strategy would help council guide how it planned, provided and managed parks and open spaces.
“Open spaces are fun places like parks, playgrounds, sporting fields,” Cr Hearn said.
“They are important because they make our community more liveable and sustainable.
“Not only do open spaces give us a place to play, socialise and have fun, but they also help us stay healthy, boost our economy and help the environment.
“We want to know what our community loves about our open spaces, what’s missing and how we can make them even better.”
Cr Hearn encouraged community feedback on the survey, to help identify gaps, explore opportunities, and shape priorities.
"Residents can share their feedback online by visiting haveyoursay.benalla.vic.gov.au, where they can complete a survey or use the interactive map tool to place markers and suggest ideas for open space in Benalla and rural townships," Cr Hearn said.
“This strategy will ensure our community has access to high-quality open spaces that help promote active lifestyles, healthy environments and strong social connections.
“Community input will help address the changing needs of our growing community and ensure our open spaces can be enjoyed for generations to come.”
This project has been made possible through grant funding from the Victorian Government 2023-24 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund — Planning Stream.
The survey is open until May 2.
