The Sefton report – Our Region, Your Say – shows the local communities are strong supporters of population growth, with a target of at least 19,800 people by 2050.
That sparked the Edward River Growth Strategy 2050 project, which is council’s response to the initial report.
And that means anyone, and everyone, with an opinion, an idea or just an idle thought, now have a platform on which they will be heard.
Council endorsed the development of the Edward River Growth Strategy 2050 project in July, with the appointment of AEC Group to deliver the strategy, which will be a community-led plan for the future, which will identify appropriate and sustainable growth for the next three decades and beyond.
Edward River Council mayor Peta Betts says the strategy is of critical importance to the future of the region.
“Central to this strategy is a community-led approach aimed at growing a vibrant local economy,” Cr Betts says.
“It’s about creating a desirable region to live, work and invest with thriving and engaged local businesses,” Cr Betts says.
“The strategy will be a blueprint that sets out the region’s competitive advantage and economic opportunities, and will direct residential, commercial and industrial expansion in a sustainable and strategic way,” she says.
Cr Betts says it is important community members, whether they’ve seen Edward River evolve over the years or are new residents, to complete the survey – and she encourages everyone to take time to do that.
“By taking part in the survey, you will be helping us make the right decisions to plan for a larger population, with services and infrastructure that will support a quality lifestyle for our current and future residents.”

Cr Betts says once you finish it, there are options to nominate for future engagement, such as being kept up to date on progress of the strategy and participating in group discussions.
