The GOTAFE nomination is in the category of large training provider of the year.
The awards recognise outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in the Victorian TAFE and training sector.
In 2020, GOTAFE was awarded inclusive training provider of the year, for its ongoing focus in the development of inclusive and diverse education opportunities across north-east Victoria.
“We are thrilled to be named as a finalist for the large training provider of the year. It is fantastic to be recognised as an industry-leading educational institution,” GOTAFE chief executive Travis Heeney said.
“GOTAFE is Victoria’s largest regional training provider, servicing communities from the NSW border to the fringes of metropolitan Melbourne.
“We provide over 120 courses across 11 campuses and support our students to achieve their career goals with hands-on study in industry-focused facilities.”
Student Kai Bucktin, who studied certificate IV in cyber security with GOTAFE, has been named as a finalist for the vocational student of the year.
“Kai, who has shown incredible commitment to his studies, began studying at GOTAFE in 2019 through the VET in secondary schools program,” Mr Heeney said.
“Kai’s success highlights the importance of alternative education pathways.”
Mr Bucktin said the GOTAFE course had not only given him professional skills, but helped him grow as a person as well.
“GOTAFE provided me with a great learning environment, which together with the support of the trainers, allowed me to become the confident person I am today,” he said.
“By the end of my studies, I learned the importance of communication, which has helped me not only in class, but allowed me to make lifelong friendships along the way.”
The 2022 Victorian Training Awards will be announced at a gala in Melbourne on Saturday, September 10.
