The Bible names this Creator as the Lord God, who is Ruler over Heaven and Earth.
Once again there is a difference in understanding amongst this group as to how this Creator God relates to the ‘creation’ He has brought into being.
Quite some years ago now, Bette Midler had a hit song called From A Distance.
The theme of the song seems to give the message that while it acknowledges the existence of God, He has no real interaction with the people He has created and has instead left them to their own devices to sort out the many conflicts and problems which exist, as best they can.
The Bible makes the point that the problems we face have come about as the result of our separation from God.
Our lack of trust in God’s ability to rule over His Creation has allowed our sin to cut us off from God’s perfect, sinless and loving guidance.
From the very time that Adam and Eve realised they had broken the perfect relationship with God through disobedience, right up to today, God has worked to make us aware that He will make a way to restore our relationship with Him.
Throughout the history of the Old Testament, God has worked with people to gain their trust, but most perfectly with the coming of His Son, Jesus Christ into the world, to demonstrate that perfect relationship through forgiveness.
God is not distant, but right with His people.
