Not everyone is fortunate to be able to celebrate Christmas or the holiday season, others are.
Some people are able to shower their children, significant others and extended families with gifts, while some are unable to hold or have a Christmas lunch, or afford to give gifts to anyone.
The Ulysses Motorcycle Club is again teaming up with the Deniliquin Salvation Army and the Deniliquin Antique Vehicle Club to try to combat the ever present issue of those going without over Christmas.
They will be in the Deniliquin CBD on Saturday, December 7 collecting toys from 8am to noon.
There will be motorcycle and car displays, and perhaps even a barbecue and some entertainment.
‘‘The toy run is all about providing toys for less fortunate children and families in our local community,’’ Ulysses member and toy run coordinator Peter Nankivell said.
‘‘Getting the motorbikes and cars down there draws people in to have a chat and encourages them to donate some toys,’’ he said.
Toys should be new or in near new condition, and should be unwrapped to ensure they can be distributed to the most appropriate person.
All items will be distributed by the Salvation Army.
The toy run is named in honour of Marc Kingston, who coordinated the local toy run as a member of the Deniliquin Motorcycle Riders Association from 1984 until his passing in 1994.
Marc’s ten-year stand with the association and coordination of the toy run brought so much good for the community, so it is only fitting the event was named in his honour.
