Although Freddie Jordan entered the world last Wednesday, it was not until Friday that he and mum Rose Jordan got to meet up with Gail.
Gail started the tradition of giving a collection of gifts to the first baby born in the New Year after welcoming her own first baby of the new year and being surprised by the lack of ceremony.
Freddie is the 35th child to benefit from her generosity.
A small silver keepsake goblet and clothing for Freddie were among the gifts, but Rose was also celebrated with flowers and chocolates.
Mrs Jordan was so grateful for the gifts and said, “ Gail is the most generous lady; Freddie and I were so spoilt.”
Another van park on the road to recovery
It’s been a long journey but out of the darkness comes a new light, and a re-opening of sorts for Deniliquin Riverside Caravan park.
The holiday tourist park has completed enough flood recovery works to re-open its upper section cabins and powered sites on Monday, January 16.
That means stay bookings are now open again.
Judging by the comments on the park’s Facebook page, it won’t be long before the visitors are rushing back to experience all the park has to offer.
The glistening new pool looks extremely inviting and is sure to be a hit with guests.
CBD vibe getting stronger
With the buzz of tourists still in town and the lure of vibrant cafes now with extended trading hours, including Sundays, the Deniliquin CBD has a particular vibe.
You can smell the coffee for miles and the side walks are full of busy tables out for friendly breakfast catch-ups and long lunches.
The shops are busy with their post Christmas sales and the parks are looking stunning and very inviting for a picnic or quiet stroll.
The morning coffee run with pampered pooch in tow is a regular sight, even extending down to End Street which is also proving to be a popular spot.
And with community events also returning after the Christmas and new year break it looks like the vibe could continue on for quite some time.
What a strong, resilient, fun community we all reside in.
Here comes summer
It’s been a mild summer so far, but the ‘real’ summer is about to hit.
We will finally escape that wintry freeze that we have been feeling for much longer than we are used to.
But the temperatures are set to soar, even reaching the 40s later this week and into the weekend.
So whether you will be having fun in the sun at this weekend’s Tyakuwala Cultural Festival, watching the cricket or tennis make sure you Slip Slop Slap and drink lots of water to beat the heat.
