That is what the Deniliquin Rovers Football & Netball Club is celebrating after a big day at Strathmerton for the Picola League grand finals on Saturday.
The atmosphere was buzzing with club pride and excitement, with a “massive and extremely loud crowd” and a very prominent presence of Deni Rovers’ blue and white.
The Deni Rovers started their matches with the under-13s netball clash against Rennie.
The girls had gone this entire season undefeated, but just couldn't get the better of their opponents in the end.
Team after team, the Rovers put everything they had into their games, showing the skills that had gotten them to the grand finals in the first place.
The C-grade and B-grade matches were particularly tense and had spectators on the edges of their seats.
The B-grade clash with Strathmerton was a tie at full time, resulting in a nail-biting 14 minutes of over time that just didn’t go the Rovers’ way.
Deni Rovers thirds footballers and A-grade, C-grade, C-reserve netballers were all victorious in their matches.
The road to finals was particularly sweet for the A-grade netballers.
After being a dominant force in the league for several consecutive years, the top side struggled to gain any traction in the 2022 home and away season and missed finals last year.
With a refreshed team and a new outlook, they went through the entire 2023 season undefeated.
While having impressive on-court performances and putting up quite the fight on Saturday, the under-13s and B-grade netball teams could not get the better of their opponents.
Club president John Glowrey said it was fantastic to see players, supporters and sponsors get around each of the teams who played on Saturday - as well as those who missed out on finals this year.
“Win or lose, the club is extremely proud of all six teams that made it to the grand finals and their performances on the day,” he said.
“To come home with four flags is the cherry on top of what has been such a successful season.”
