One PTee correspondent admits to being a little sceptical when she told someone had seen a carp swimming down the middle of Barham Rd yesterday, right up until she witnessed it herself.
While the fish she saw did not come to the surface enough for her to make out what species, she said the movement in the water indicated it was indeed a fish.
Frogs have also been happily singing all over the town as more wetlands have appeared where they would not normally be.
But, a few locals have highlighted that the water will also means snakes may also be where you would not expect to see them.
The Pastoral Times has heard of horses and other animals becoming victim to snake bites in the past few days. Like us, the slithery reptiles will be looking for shelter from any futher rain and flash flooding so please be careful.

Author meet and greet tomorrow
Australian author Darry Fraser will be at the Edward River Library tomorrow morning to talk about her new book, The Miliner of Bendigo.
Set in Bendigo, 1898 The Miliner of Bendigo weaves through a story line which includes trouble with the law, a missing sister, which takes the book’s main character, Evie Emerson, to Cobram and a growing attachment to the wrong man in this historical mystery.
Don’t miss your chance to meet the talented author from 10:30am tomorrow at the Edward River Library.
Waste weekend deferred
Edward River Council is giving residential property owners the opportunity to take advantage of free waste disposal.
Originally planned to be held this Saturday and Sunday, it has been moved to next week because of the rain event impeding access to the waste depot.
During the waste weekend, larger household items such as mattresses, white goods and furniture items can be dropped off free of charge.
Free waste disposal weekends are not kerbside collection.
All items must be deposited at the landfill depot by residents and do not include tyres, commercial, construction or demolition waste.
Weather permitting, the Deniliquin landfill depot is open from 8.30am to 1pm daily, excluding Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Australia Day, Anzac Day and Good Friday.
First day of summer
Today marks the first day of summer, but the weather gurus aren’t on the same page.
One online weather report predicts a top daily temperature of 27ºC while another tell us the first day of summer will see a top temperature of 26, and another says 25.
While we understand it’s only one degree difference and forecasting weather is one thing best left to the professionals, it seems as though our forecasting is a little like the Murray Darling Basin Plan - no-one can seem to get on the same page and get it right.
If you have a weather station at home we’d love to hear what your maximum temperature reading for the first day of summer in Deniliquin was.
