Firefighters were called to a campground in the National Park - located between Deniliquin and Moama - about 9pm on New Year’s Eve.
There were initial reports the fire may have gotten out of control.
The brigade was on site at 9.05 pm with one truck.
Upon arrival, the firefighters were able to determine that no-one was injured or in immediate harm.
But, as solid fuel fire bans are in place in the National Park during the Bush Fire Danger Period, the fire had to be extinguished.
During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited.
Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as: They're under direct control of an adult, the ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials and there's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket).
If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply.
Firefighters left the campgrounds about 9.30pm.
