For the first time the show will be held at Congupna Community Hall, with over 500 patrons expected to attend across the weekend of September 28 and 29.
GV Orchid Club president Chris Ibbotson said that with five commercial growers attending, there will be no shortage of plants for attendees to stop and admire.
“You're going to have hundreds of examples of the orchids, and they could be really large or grand exotics,” she said.
“It just depends on what we've got out at the time, (but) at this time of the year you have a lot of Cymbidiums.”
Having now been operating for over 42 years, plenty of the GV Orchid Club’s 100 members will also have plants for sale.
Festival goers will also be able to purchase all the accessories needed to grow orchids, from stakes to potting mix and everything in-between.
Those without a green thumb needn’t worry, as there will be ample assistance available to those looking to get involved or learn more about the plants.
“There will be flower arrangements, photography, potting demonstrations, and there's two (demonstrations) a day, one is at about 10:30 in the morning, and the other one is at 1pm,” Mrs Ibbotson said.
“You'll have expert growers, they'll be on hand, so if you need any advice on how to grow them or how to fertilise them and all that sort of stuff, there'll be someone there to answer those questions.”
Raffle tickets will be sold for a dollar each, with a number of orchids up for grabs as prizes, while morning and afternoon tea and a light lunch will be available for purchase.
The GV Orchid Club’s ‘Festival of Orchids’ will run from 9am to 4pm on Saturday, September 28, and 10 am to 3pm on Sunday, September 29, with entry $5 per person.
