The Depot allows you to immerse yourself in to the past, amongst the family-friendly and interactive displays.
The unique collection of vehicles and memorabilia tells stories of life at home and on the road, with touches of Hollywood, Australian motoring, trucking, transport, emergency vehicles of the past and vehicles from all around the world dating back to 1908.
Toys, furniture and white goods are among the displays.
The displays build on the historic vehicles and memorabilia collected by Neville and Debbie Purtill, and the Purtill family, over many years.
The Purtill family has been involved in the transport industry since the 1950s, when Keith and Pat Purtill started a bus service.
Tribute is paid to the pioneers of the business which has continued under the guidance of their sons and grandchildren with a number of their retired buses part of the display, including the 1948 Bedford bus famously known as ‘Rosie’.
Other crowd favourites include the DeLorean, a replica of the one used in the Back to the Future movies, and the pink 1959 Cadillac sedan de ville which is the inspiration for the second storey function room.
The collection of fuel bowsers adds some intrigue, and there is a retail shop where you can buy memorabilia and giftware.
Adjacent is the Cruizin* Diner at the Cobb Highway Roadhouse.
The diner offers a complete experience, where you can enjoy great food and take in the vibrant decor including vinyl booth seating, neon signs and classic tunes which all transport you back to 1950s America.
The theme is carried through to the ‘Truckies Lounge’, and the Cruizin* Playzone is popular amongst the youngsters.
The Depot is located in Hardinge St, Deniliquin, and is open 10am to 4pm seven days a week.
Entry is $15 for adults, $10 for children, concession card holders and seniors, or $30 for a family of four (two adults and two children). Ask about the Fast Lane Club if you plan to return again throughout the year.
