They were among students at 25 Aussie schools to write a letter and make a Christmas themed crafted gift to be sent to another student in the program.
Classroom teacher Marita Leetham said the kids enjoyed the program, especially receiving gifts and letters of their own from other schools.
‘‘For some of the kids it was their first time ever receiving a letter, so that was very exciting,’’ Mrs Leetham said.
‘‘The kids loved reading about other schools and places around Australia.’’
Mrs Leetham said the students benefited greatly from the program, as they were able to connect with places outside of their own town in a fun and interactive way.
‘‘The program opened their eyes to different places around Australia.
‘‘Most of the schools we were partnered with in the program were in Queensland, so that was cool for the kids to learn about another state.’’
A map of Australia was plastered at the back of the classroom, where the students marked the location of the schools they received gifts and letters from.
Mrs Leetham said her students wrote about features unique to Deniliquin and made Christmas puppets to send to the other schools.
‘‘We made Santa, elf, reindeer and snow-man puppets and wrote about the Ute Muster, our beautiful river and farming in our letters.’’
