The northern Victorian was still reeling from excitement days after discovering his newfound fortune and breaking the winning news to his brother on Saturday night.
“It’s amazing. I feel great!” he cheered.
“You wouldn’t believe it; my brother has the same ticket.
“It all started in the early days when I went away for a holiday, and he put my TattsLotto ticket on for me. Since then, we’ve had the same numbers in every TattsLotto draw.
“I was out having some tea on Saturday night when I decided to check my TattsLotto ticket on the phone.
“I checked with my wife and asked her how many numbers I needed to win division one. She responded with six and assumed we only had five numbers.
“That’s when I turned to her and said, ‘don’t worry, we’ve got six!’. She couldn’t believe it. She thought I was kidding.
“I phoned my brother straight away and asked him if he had checked his ticket.
“We’re retired now, and my wife really wants to go to Hawaii for a family holiday. So, I think that’s what we will be doing with the prize!
“Thank you so much.”
His winning marked System 8 entry was purchased at Echuca Lucky Lotto.
Echuca Lucky Lotto manager Eric Davey said his team were so excited to hear they’d sold a division one winning entry to a local and helped change their life.
“It’s wonderful news! We were due to sell another division one winning entry as we had sold a division two entry only last week!” he said.
“Echuca Lucky Lotto has been owned by Craig and Kylie Kirk for approximately 10 years and has been operating for around 45 years in total. We’ve seen many lottery wins and happy faces!
“Our customers often mention they would like to add to our impressive collection of 34 division one winners, and for one lucky customer, that dream came true on the weekend.
“We wish him and his family all the best with his division one win. Thank you for supporting Echuca Lucky Lotto and we hope to keep seeing your face for years to come.”
The pair of brothers used the same set of special numbers they’ve both been using since the late ’70s.
They revealed the family tradition began when one brother asked the other to put on his regular TattsLotto ticket while he was on holidays.
Both brothers then continued getting identical weekly TattsLotto tickets.
The brotherly duo were the only Victorians to have held all six winning numbers needed to score division one in the weekend’s TattsLotto draw.
The other entry was purchased at Southland Lucky Lotto in Cheltenham.
