The first two episodes of Underbelly: Vanishing Act aired Sunday night, with Mr Hare making an appearance fairly early.
The final two episodes aired last night, after the Pastoral Times went to print.
The show is a partially fictionalised telling of the mystery that surrounds Melissa Caddick - an Australian financial advisor who disappeared in 2020 amid an investigation by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC) for allegedly running a Ponzi scheme.
Her severed foot turned up on a beach in early 2021.
In true Underbelly style, the story is told from Caddick’s point of view.
And she introduces Mr Hare’s character, Nash ‘the pool guy’, early on with an inference that he is to become one of the first victims of her scheme.
“Nash is just a hard working, honest family man doing his best to get ahead in life,” Mr Hare said of his character.
“It is a fictional story based on a true event.”
And that’s all Mr Hare could reveal at the time of speaking to the Pastoral Times, before the show had aired completely.
The whole production has been shrouded in secrecy, with Mr Hare not even able to reveal he had been cast.
“When I got the audition brief it was all top secret,” he said.
“I saw it was the new Underbelly on Melissa Caddick and I remembered hearing the name, and I did a lot of research before going into it.
“The audition was by putting a tape down - since COVID a lot of auditions have been like that instead of in person.
“I got the part straight from the audition.”
Mr Hare said while appearing in an Underbelly TV show is a drawcard, he said it was the storyline and writing that really drew him in.
“Underbelly has such a legacy, and the parts of the script I was able to read before my audition were really good.
“I always look to the writing and who is involved when I audition.”
As for his co-stars, Mr Hare shares the screen with Kate Atkinson, who plays Caddick, in the first two episodes.
The program also features heavyweights in the industry like Frankie J Holden and Colin Friels.
Mr Hare moved to Sydney many years ago to pursue an acting career.
Dylan has landed many roles since that move, with his other TV appearances including the ABC political drama Total Control and Home & Away, both in 2019, and as a recurring guest cast member of Black Comedy between 2018 and 2020.
Last year he was cast in the movie Shark, featuring Aussie acting heavy weights Rose Byrne and Nash Edgerton.
He also appeared in a national advertising campaign for Canadian Club whisky.
Mr Hare said he’s waiting to hear back about what is next for him.
“There;’s a few things in the pipeline,” he said.
“I’ve auditioned for one film and one TV show, and I am waiting to hear back.”
