From early in the morning, they assisted a local excavator operator to lift the time capsule buried by the club and its members in 2000.
While Rotary would have loved to have made it a public event, safety concerns prevented them from doing so.
But the capsule will remain closed until the official opening in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens this Sunday.
Meeting at 8am Saturday, nestled among the bushland of the Island Sanctuary, several of the Rotarians in attendance included those who were involved in its burial in 2000.
Some even returned to Deni especially for the event.
Rotary Club of Denilqiuin president Iain Goodway expressed satisfaction with the smooth lifting operation, and shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming public opening.
“It was fantastic to have some returning Rotary members, and our current members.
“It was obviously a bit disheartening with not having as many there as we may have liked, but that was an OHS issue that we couldn’t risk.
“This is something we were advised on, but there will be a fantastic opportunity to be able to get down to the opening on the 26th.”
The opening of the time capsule will be held in the Deniliquin Waring Gardens this Sunday.
It will be held at the conclusion of the Edward River Council Australia Day ceremony at the Town Hall, which is expected to finish about 11.30am.
