The school held its annual Spelling Bee with students eager to showcase their capabilities.
The challenge forms part of the NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee for primary students which encourages youngsters to be engaged in spelling in a fun and educational way.
A total of 53 students volunteered to be part of the competition, to push themselves and their vocab and spelling skills.
Principal Liz Dudley said staff were impressed by the number of students who were successful in completing several levels.
‘‘The students had been preparing in class from last term, practising words from the official lists,’’ Mrs Dudley said.
‘‘Some of the trickier words for the junior section were: acerbic, acetic, actuality, addendum, cessation, chivalry, predilection, stupendous, subservient, superficial, sustenance and defensible.
‘‘Some of the trickier words for the senior section were: pecuniary, pedestrian, pejorative, percolator, permanence, permutation, pharaoh, pharmacist, memorandum, meteoroid, metropolitan, momentarily, resilient, resplendent, restitution, reticulate and reverberate.
‘‘The bee was a process of elimination and both sections required a spell off to determine runner up.’’
And some children showed their way with words, to make it to the top.
Stage 3 winner was Amy Holloway, with runner up Harry Campbell, and in Stage 2 Grace O’ Connor was winner with runner up Travis Hanns.
The winners will progress to the next round to be held in term four in an online format.
