B grade: Rams 45 def Numurkah 30.
This was the first time that we have had our full team, so we were able to utilise this and try some new positions and combinations amongst the girls. We got off to a flying start thanks to Makhaya Mitsch in the mid court.
Elle Parsons and Alana Coates created a lot of turnovers, getting intercepts and rebounds allowing us to score and push our lead.
As always Georgina Mildren’s shooting was of super high accuracy allowing us to extend that lead.
With everyone thirsty for a champagne afterwards at ladies day, we did drop in and out of consistency but overall another great win by our B grade girls!
Awards: Incentive – Elle Parsons; White Lion – Makhaya Mitsch; Glow Beauty – Alana Coates; Brontes – Georgina Mildren.
C grade: Rams 42 def Numurkah 24.
The Rams were determined to get a good lead on Numurkah in the first quarter.
They fought hard and took control of the ball.
There was lots of talk on the court and this helped with the flow. Rams kept a good lead throughout the game.
Ella Park drove hard and got plenty of turnovers outside of the ring. Steph Maher worked well in the defensive ring, being solid back up for Ella and taking strong rebounds.
Steph Birk was an asset in the centre, she provided lots of talk down the whole court. Eloise Maher and Nat Free worked well in the ring with great feeding from Bella White and Janice Hilton. Great game, Rams!
Awards: Club incentive – Steph Maher; White Lion – Eloise Maher; Reflections – Ella Park; IGA – Steph Birk.
C reserve: Rams 72 def Numurkah 44.
On what was a cold, wintry, wet day at Rams, C reserve were able to clock up a convincing win against third placed Numurkah. Persistent four quarters of defensive pressure from the Rams’ defence and quick and clean movement of the ball into attack contributed to the impressive win.
Awards: Amber Farley, Krissy Nieuwenhuizen, Jerah Henderson and Mel Broadbent.
U17s: No game.
U15s: Rams 28 lt Numurkah 36.
The under 15s had their first loss for the season, going down to Numurkah by eight. They led at quarter time by one goal, but after that struggled to put together consistent team play. They climbed back to within two at three quarter time but unfortunately couldn’t maintain that momentum. Phoebe Jefferies worked tirelessly in defence, as did Bonnie Everett.
Awards: Glow Beauty – Phoebe Jefferies; White Lion – Bonnie Everett; That Pizza & Subway – Shae Learmonth (Team sportsmanship award).
U13s: Deni 38 def Numurkah 13.
Great defensive work and versatility by the under 13s assisted them to defeat Numurkah by 25 goals. Sophie Tilders and Shontai O’Callaghan caused many turnovers with their tight defence and deflections over the court. Aysha Mitsch and Ava Marshall were able to switch from defensive roles to attack with ease. The girls both showed great strength with great leads and accuracy in the goal circle.
Awards: White Lion – Sophie Tilders; Bennetts – Ava Marshall; Scoop and Brew – Aysha Mitsch; Subway – Shontai O’Callaghan.
U11s: Not scored.
Captained by Lexi Butcher, the girls’ defence and goal accuracy has improved out of sight. However, ball movement and positioning down the court needs a lot of work.
In the DNA competition, Rams Blue 13s were defeated by the DNA rep side, 8-5.
The grand final brought so much excitement to the Rams Blue team after 10+ weeks of developing and transferring so many new skills.
The wet, wintery night did not dampen the girls’ spirits and we came out firing.
The defensive combination of the two Avas — Marshall and Richards — certainly caused the opposition a headache, and the relentless turnovers through the middle gave the Rams Blue many attacking opportunities.
Macy Butcher had a brilliant game in the mid court, positioning herself well and moving the ball well into the goalers.
The final score reflected the amazing growth the Rams Blue have had.
Well done girls.
