Deni North wins Riverina debating comp

Deniliquin North School’s debating team has been crowned Riverina champions.

The foursome defeated Thurgoona in the Riverina grand final of the Premier’s Debating Challenge earlier this month.

They now progress to the state championships to be held in Stanwell Tops in late November.

Ten schools will compete at state.

The winning Deni North team, in speaker order, includes Brydey Maher, Amy Doherty, Enzo Sztejman and Alyssa Howley.

The team argued the affirmative of the topic ‘that we should ban students from bringing unhealthy food to school’.

“We used our prep time strategically, coming up with excellent arguments and ideas for rebuttal,” Enzo said.

“It was an excellent debate against very tough opposition.”

Three Arts Department adjudicators unanimously awarded the win to Deni North.
