The incident occurred in James Court Finley where more than 500 large bales were impacted as well as a pile of almond hulls that were nearby.
The town brigade and crew on board assisted using Deniliquin’s compressed air foam system (CAFS) pumper.
The CAFS system was used to extinguish the fire to allow equipment in to pull apart the stack.
Once under control the crew was able to head back to the Deniliquin station.
RFS also on the road to help
Town firefighters were not the only ones working outside their immediate coverage area to battle a blaze at the weekend.
Mathoura’s Rural Fire Service members were called to a fire on Shepparton Rd, Moama just after 1pm Sunday.
A power pole had caught alight after a power surge.
One truck from Mathoura and five crew attended.
Upon arrival residents had already extinguished the fire.
Crews did the necessary checks before leaving the scene.
Did you pull a tennis all nighter ?
For tennis fanatics, Thursday night’s epic match which then became a Friday morning session, surely produced some lacklustre performances at work for many on Friday.
The match between Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis went for more than five and a half hours finishing at 4.05am stirring a raging debate.
The players didn’t step onto court until after 10pm and the duration of the match has renewed calls for a set curfew in relation to night match finishing times.
It is suggested essentially to ensure the welfare of the players, the ball kids and of course the fans.
So congratulations if you stayed awake for the entire match and you may be the perfect candidates to weigh in on the debate.
Mathoura Football Club have exciting news
The current vice president of Mathoura Football and Netball Club Richie Jachim has filled the void of U17s football coach for season 2023.
Ritchie has taken on the task on top of all the work he is already doing behind the scenes.
He is front and centre ready to guide the future senior players in their journey through the upcoming season.
The club is welcoming new and old players and anyone wishing to come along from Deniliquin is welcome as a ride to training can be organised.
Training is Thursday nights and for any further enquiries you can contact Ritchie on 0477 663 404.
Wandering ducks
Locals are quite aware of the hotspots when it comes to ducks on the roads, but it appears they are wandering even further from the parks and lagoons.
Some of the local ducks unfortunately came to their demise after being hit by a vehicle near the Harfleur St intersection of Edwardes St.
With the number of insects about, we’re sure their wandering is not in pursuit of a food source.
Perhaps some of the pesky insects have led them away from the parks.
Either way, it’s a reminder to take extra care of wildlife on the roads - regardless of the type of wildlife or location.
In saying that, we also understand it is not always possible to stop safely if a duck or other animal gets in your path.
