Deni Drovers at home for last game of the season

And while the team will not progress to finals, the Drovers will be giving it their all to end things on a high.

‘‘We hope to have a full team on the weekend for our last game of the season,’’ player Staci Richardson said.

‘‘Hopefully we can get a win to finish things off.

‘‘Our game plan will be similar to most weeks; keep the ball in their half of the field and try to keep possession as long as possible.

‘‘It will be important to start strong as well. We can be dangerous if we put a couple of big hits on their ball runners early on.’’

The Drovers have not yet played Griffith due to a suspended round earlier in the season.

They expect the opposition to be a tough side to crack.

‘‘Griffith are a solid team with many strengths,’’  Richardson said.

‘‘They are a top team. Their forward pack usually has a couple of big ball runners who are agile and their backs are pacey and athletic. 

‘‘I’m not sure if it will be even, but I know that anything can happen on game day. 

‘‘We just have to give it our best and we’ll celebrate the season no matter what.’’ 

The Drovers have had a mixed season this year, with a few good wins early on followed by some major losses.

Weaker performances have been contributed to a lack of players, with numbers impacted by COVID restrictions.

‘‘Our team did well this year considering the COVID restrictions, with country sports taking a bit of a hit in numbers,’’ Richardson said.

‘‘A number of our losses came from a lack of numbers, especially in our away games.

‘‘I think it’s in our best interest to do some serious recruiting for next year and get pre-season started nice and early so we have time to teach any newcomers how to play.

‘‘We had some great games this season, which I’m sure many of the boys will remember, with some huge wins at home against quality clubs.’’

The Drovers will kick off at 2pm at Rotary Park.
