What firefighters actually found was a grass fire, which had burned close to 500 hectares before being brought under control.

The fire did get into some trees, but firefighting efforts were aided by weekend rain.

Ten Mid Murray RFS crews responded to the blaze, with another 10 from the Country Fire Authority in Victoria.

Between the two authorities, upwards of 50 firefighters were battling the blaze.

The fire was under control by 5.15pm Friday, but the fire continues to be monitored carefully.

On Saturday morning, about 10.30am, the Mid Murray RFS was called to Calimo Rd, Calimo.

A grass fire burned about 9ha before being brought under control by 2pm.

Five RFS crews attended, and 15 firefighters.
