The ABC has reported that recorded cases of RSV have doubled on last year across Australia.
RSV is a common cause of respiratory infection. It mostly affects young children, but adults can also get sick from RSV.
RSV symptoms are usually mild, but some can get very sick and may need to go to hospital for treatment.
Some babies and older people can have a RSV immunisation or vaccine.
Australians are also being warned of a new family of COVID-19 sub-variants, being referred to as FLiRT.
Health experts say it is more transmissible that the previous versions of the disease, but appear to be less serious in most people.
Anyone who feels they are at risk of, or have, either illness is asked to speak directly to their doctor or call healthdirect on 1800 022 222 for free 24-hour health advice.
Sports journo’s star encounter
Cricketing sensation Todd Murphy was in Deni over the weekend spending time with family and friends.
Todd was good enough to stop for a quick photo with cricket fan and Pastoral Times journalist Rowan Frazer at Harry Pepper Coffee on Saturday morning.
Todd said his partner’s grandmother is from Deniliquin and has connections to the area.
The bespectacled Moama-based cricketer put the cricket world in a spin last year playing in six tests taking 21 wickets across four tests in India and two during the 2023 Ashes in England.
Easter reminiscing
We’ve all done it. Started cleaning out a room or cupboard and come across something that distracts us from the task at hand.
For one local resident, the distraction was finding a photo depicting one of Deniliquin’s famous jazz festivals.
It made her think back to the festival, and lament that it no longer exists.
Taken during the event’s popular parade, it shows participants making their way along Cressy St, with some now closed local shops pictured in the background.
The photo has no markings so it’s unclear who the photo is of, but the group is brandishing a sign which reads 25th anniversary.
We’re not certain if that was the 25th anniversary of the festival, or the club depicted.
