The Deniliquin Pastoral & Agricultural Society has been working hard to prepare for the event, having lost a few months of preparation time during the floods last year.
President Chantelle Shevels said one of the biggest transformations has been to the demolition derby arena.
Around the derby area, committee members have implemented a log safety barrier and a sloping viewing platform to ensure more people can see the action.
Demolition derby steward Paul Osmond said more work is needed to get the arena ready, but assured the community it would be a competition not to miss.
“We went down recently to prepare the grounds, and it is still a little powdery and dirty,” Mr Osmond said.
“We lost about half the dirt down there during the floods.
“And because of those floods we are about six months behind in our preparations, but the site is coming along nicely.”
Five demolition derby drivers have already registered for the event, and with registrations open until February 26 there is still time for more to come on board.
Entries are also open for the show’s various other events and attractions.
Also closing on February 26 are entries for the pavilion, dog show and dog jump and shearing and wool handling competitions, and beef cattle entries close February 28.
Entries for all other sections close on March 2. This includes dairy cattle, giant atlantic pumpkin competition, horse events, meat and dual purpose sheep, Merino sheep, poultry, wool pavilion and the tiny tots and junior judging events.
Entries can be lodged online using the event’s new-look website. Simply follow the links at deniliquinshow.com.au to complete your entry.
Contact details for each section’s stewards are also available on the website should you need more information or assistance.
The Deni Yard Dog Association will also host the New South Wales 2023 State Yard Dog Championships at the show, with entries accepted at https://yarddogsnsw.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/deni-yard-entry-form-2023-1.pdf until February 21.
Aside from the long list of competitions, the show will offer a veritable feast of attractions for the family. Complementing the popular sideshow alley will be a bar, food sites, live music and a free petting zoo.
As always, the event will officially close with a spectacular fireworks display.
A weekend pass to the show is $20 for adults and $5 for children aged five to 15, with children under five receiving free admission. Family tickets, for two adults and three children, are $40.
Tickets can be pre-purchased online, or from My Shop and Deniliquin Jewellers.
