Corowa High School Careers Advisor Janet Lake said the school is very proud of the students’ efforts and achievements this year.
“We know that they will go out into the world to make their mark, as many others have done before them,” Ms Lake said.
The chosen pathways span a broad spectrum and include Business Marketing, Veterinary Science, Paramedicine, Nursing, Education, Law, Aeronautical Engineering, Agricultural Science, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Medical Science, Forensics/Criminology, Nutrition/Dietetics and Game Design.
“Our students have applied for, and been accepted into, courses all over, so they will be heading in many different directions either next year or the following year.” Ms Lake said.
“Other students have taken up apprenticeships or traineeships in various trades including cabinetmaking, engineering, agriculture, horticulture, hairdressing and for the first time this year, we have a student accepting an offer from the Careers Agstart Organisation, which will see her working with a dairy enterprise.”
As part of the Department of Education’s School-based traineeship program, Archie Bedford is gaining experience with TH Kitchens and Joinery and Leroy Chester is currently working casually at the Corowa Golf Club, with aspirations of securing an apprenticeship in 2025.
Both students have been participating in weekly work experiences throughout the year.
“I would like to extend my thanks to the employers who have provided opportunities and support for our students this year,” Ms Lake added.
School-based traineeships provide valuable opportunities for students. Employers interested in supporting this initiative can contact Corowa High School at (02) 6033 1889 for more information.
Despite the abundance of opportunities and work, certain trade sectors are grappling with a significant shortage of apprentices.
Ms Lake said local business owners frequently express their struggle to recruit young talent for these rewarding career paths.
Corowa High School Careers Facebook page is updated regularly with career-related opportunities and information.
“We are excited to partner with TAFE NSW- Corowa who will be running an Electrotechnology course for our students in 2025 in their Connected Learning Centre,” Ms Lake said.
“This free course will run each Wednesday morning with 16 students currently enrolled and several more on a wait list.”
Corowa High School is proud of the diverse pathways our students have chosen and the incredible opportunities they are embracing.
“We look forward to continuing our strong partnerships with local employers and TAFE to provide further opportunities in the years ahead,” Ms Lake said.
