There will be a series of four trams, one of which will be a studio space doubling as an Art Glass Gallery, another will be a ‘Party Tram’ and the remaining two will be used as accommodation trams.
Local artist and president of the Corop Sculpture Park Edie May is the mastermind behind the multipurpose trams.
She said the journey to acquiring the trams began six years ago but with a different project in mind.
“About six years ago, I saw a Facebook post regarding the disposal of rolling stock from the Newport Light Rail yards,” she said.
“Not For Profit and other organisations were encouraged to complete a survey for the repurposing of old trams in their communities... I heard nothing [back]."
Around three months ago however, the offer came up again, and so she applied, not expecting to hear anything back.
She now has four trams in total, two of which came through the rolling stock offer and another two she sourced online.
Although the trams were originally sought out for different reasons, she said her art has lead her to a new vision for the trams.
“I started with a dream six years ago of a tram for a community playground, then my glass art and other arts brought about the possibility of glass studio galleries,” she said.
People will eventually have the option to become a member of the Tram Art Glass Gallery.
Ms May said she is on the search for like-minded members who will make use of the space.
“I am seeking members who need a place to meet for social gatherings in a unique setting and also craft minded persons who wish to learn glass arts,” she said.
“Artists who wish to sell their work through this gallery will retain 75 per cent of the sale price.”
The tram's unveiling will be held on October 18 to 20, in line with the Rochester Show and Shine and Sip and Sounds happening on the same weekend down the road in Rochester.
The studio space will showcase some of her glass art works, while the remaining two will be open for visitors to take a look around.
The event will kick off from 3pm on Friday, October 18, until 3pm on Sunday, October 20, at 1900 Midland Hwy, Corop.
