As well as hearing from emergency services and flood response authorities, community members will have access to local service providers and hear from health and mental health representatives.
The event will feature service provider stalls, as well as a 30 minute expert panel answering some of the most pressing questions and issues in the community.
Edward River Council acting CEO Mark Dalzell said the Flood Wellness and Preparedness Information Session will enable community members to attain “holistic support during the current flood event”.
“As these floods are expected to be a sustained event, council wants to ensure the community is calm, empowered and informed,” Mr Dalzell said.
“There will be opportunities to connect with other residents as well as a range of service providers and agencies assisting with flood preparations and recovery.”
The panel includes Mayor Peta Betts and Mark Dalzell, who is council’s director of infrastructure, as well as Murrumbidgee Local Health District Community Mental Health Drug and Alcohol manager Alison Thorne, Deniliquin-Conargo SES unit controller Jodie Graham, Rural Fire Service Mid Murray Zone Commander Superintendent Tony Whitehorn and Paul Marshall from Resilience NSW.
Cr Betts said this is a great opportunity for people to get the information they need and plan for the future, including resources for primary producers who may have lost crops.
“We know it’s been a tough few years for many, and these lingering high river levels and rain events are creating angst in the community,” she said.
“This is your opportunity to hear from council representatives, emergency response teams and mental health experts to help arm you with clear, concise and practical information and support.”
The forum will be held at the Deniliquin Multi Arts Centre in Cressy St from 5.30pm to 7pm today.
Light refreshments will be provided.
